Excellent article on information security, and where the open source mentality fits in.

There are so many ways to access and reference information these days that the idea that a lot of our information is 'secret' is a nonsense. Clarity and transparency have become the watchwords of a large part of modern living and even more so in the wake of the MP's expenses scandal. So in an age when a lot of our personal data is available through laws such as the Freedom of Information Act and where a lot of it is guarded through the Data Protection Act, is it any wonder that people are confused about where they stand with these things?
For me going forward the open source and free distribution of information is a good thing. It allows greater awareness and for greater possibilities, especially in the area of social innovation and change. Instead of a few hundred people working on a problem behind closed doors locally, there could be 6 billion people considering the problem globally.
