RM* 3D stereo features on BBC’s “Ed & Oucho’s Excellent Inventions”

Late last year we provided key sequences for the BBC2
children's programme Ed & Oucho's Excellent Inventions, broadcast on March 6

and still available here… http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00pxtth

The BBC approached us with the idea of sending Excellent Adventures presenter Ed Petrie “back in time”, to become Henry VIII. Producers wanted to find out how this effect could be achieved for TV.

The Henry VIII sequences were shot at the nuarts studio in King Street, Glasgow, with other sequences, including the portrayal of “Dufflecoat Studios”, home of the fictional film director character in the programme, shot at RM*s base at TVI’s studios in nearby Bell Street.

The 3D sequences were shot by cameraman Jim Galbreath, and then edited to portray Ed Petrie as Henry VIII dining in a fictional Tudor great hall. Further 3D stereoscopic animation was added to sit as an opener to a time travel sequence.

The programme looked at how 3D video is produced and how 3D stereo is possible to view, as well as using 3D sequences in scenes where a young viewer "interviewed" Henry VIII, played in full 3D aplomb by Ed Petrie.

The final embellishment was a live performance of the film with real time interactivity for children at St. Mary’s University College in London.
